Out on Bampton Common today, checking control sites, and had plenty of animals and birds for company:
skylarks
sheep
fell ponies
three lizards
three deer
a hare
and I heard my first cuckoo of the year

Controller Karen has also been out on the area and reports that there is barely any bracken growth yet, and even the tussocks (not that there are many) are subdued.
