Permanent Orienteering Courses

A Permanent Orienteering Course (POC) is a perfect way for getting active, enjoying the scenery and green spaces with your family, or as a chance to get outdoors for a competitive time trial. They offer an opportunity for individuals and families to orienteer at any time, and provide a first stepping stone to participation in the adventure sport of orienteering. You don’t need any special equipment to get started so why not test your skills and give a POC a try?

Border Liners have permanent courses active at Talkin Tarn Country Park near Brampton and Rickerby Park, Carlisle, and have helped establish a permanent course at Watchtree Nature Reserve between Carlisle and Wigton. Follow the links to get more information on each course.

For those new to orienteering an Orienteering Foundation video available on YouTube gives you a great idea of what to expect:

With over 500 POCs throughout the UK there should be something nearby. You can find out details of all these POCs on the GO Orienteering website of British Orienteering.

Our neighbouring club, West Cumberland Orienteering Club, has a POC at Whinlatter Forest, and Newcastle & Tyneside Orienteers has a POC at Walltown Crags at Greenhead. Information for both of these POCs can also be found on the GO Orienteering website.
