Bampton Common Cumbrian Galoppen – 10th May 2026

The latest stage in the 2026 Cumbrian Galoppen series of orienteering events was held by Border Liners at Bampton Common on Sunday 10th May. Despite minus 4 degree temperatures overnight it soon warmed up, aided by the almost unbroken sunshine. On the start line there were mutters of it being too hot, but a light breeze meant that it was almost perfect. Underfoot conditions were mostly quite fast with just a few patches of reedy marsh, intermingled with the odd nettle, to slow progress. Miltonrigg, Saturday 14th March 2026

The latest event in Border Liners Orienteering Club’s Saturday Series took place on 14th March at Miltonrigg Woods, just to the east of Brampton. The fine weather allowed dappled sunlight to illuminate the woodland floor and with almost no undergrowth fast running was rewarded so long as it was accompanied by accurate navigation. The only things to really slow the running were the numerous ditches, full of water after recent rain, making a good long jumping technique beneficial.
