The CompassSport Cup and Trophy Final took place this Sunday (18th October) in Ashdown Forest in East Sussex. Twenty one BL members made the long trek south, and were surprised and delighted to come home with the trophy. Many congratulations to all!

The terrain was a mixture of fast open heathland and runnable forest. Good visibility and plenty of paths made navigation relatively straightforward, but executing your route at speed required constant concentration. There was a great atmosphere at the finish, with club banners and tents arrayed along the long run-in and finishers being cheered on by their club mates. The on-line results, both individual and team, were kept up-to-date meaning that you always knew how your club was doing. For most of the time BL were hovering around the middle of the results, but as our late starters finished we made a big leap to the top of the leader board and stayed there.

This what Andy Lewsley, BL’s team manager said “What a fantastic team effort! 13 scoring runners all in the top 11 places. We have never won before; our best result was last year, coming second. We came 4th many years ago and rarely normally get to the final. Everyone travelled a 700+ mile round trip with some taking trains, buses and fellow competitors cars to get there.”
A lot of the team had to leave before the prize-giving to catch trains, but we still managed a good showing….
