AGM Highlights

The BL AGM took place on Tuesday 6th October at Low Hesket Village Hall. Minutes will be emailed to club members in a future BL Newsletter, but here’s a summary…..

For the first time members were able to joint the meeting remotely. Six people made use of this facility, so thank you to Jane for setting it all up. The other new development was that the meeting was recorded and the minutes then prepared with the assistance of AI.

For the last three years the committee has being trying to amend the constitution (nothing drastic, mostly just a few financial things) and the good news is that it was finally successful. It required 25% of the voting membership to be present, which was achieved with one to spare. There was a small cheer as the crucial 27th person walked through the door.

Chairman Dan and trophy winner Christine

As usual, the chairman announced the winners of the trophies for the members who had made a particularly significant contribution to the club over the year (or years). The senior trophy went to Christine K for all the time and effort she puts into Schools events and club coaching. This year alone she has organised an event at Acorn Bank for around 130 school children and and another at Kirkby Thore for 100, not to mention coaching sessions before BL Saturday events, club junior training sessions and weekly S&C (Strength and Condioionning) on-line classes. Amazing!

The junior trophy went to Thomas in recognition of the fact that he has recently been invited to train with the North West Junior Squad, and his regular attendance and good results at BL and other events. Well done Thomas! He was not at the meeting so will be presented with the trophy the Compass Sport Trophy final next weekend (another event at which his attendance is greatly appreciated).

The Junior Trophy awaits presentation

The meeting was followed by an extremely interesting talk about the work of Mountain Rescue from Jeff, who is a member of the Keswick team. Among other things he gave some advise about what to do if you need to call MR and how to register for the “emergencySMS” services that can help if you have an accident somewhere without a mobile signal (See here for details). When he asked afterwards whether there were any questions, instead of the normal slow response there was an rush of people eager to know more. Had it not been that everyone was getting hungry (the meeting had gone on longer than anticipated) it might have gone on for hours. Thank you Jeff.

Which brings us to the subject of food. There was a “bring and share” supper, greatly enjoyed by all. How is it that if everyone brings more than they intend to eat, all the food disappears?
