Level D local orienteering event at Hallin Fell, on the east side of Ullswater.
Pre-entry only except for Yellow and Orange courses where there will be some entry on the day, subject to map availability.
Parking
Field at Howtown, 6km SW of Pooley Bridge. The carpark is easy to find and will be signed at the gate. Postcode is CA10 2ND, What3Words barn.liners.pleaser, grid ref NY442197 . £2 car parking fee. Lift share if possible.
For anyone looking for an alternative, fun method of getting to the event, the Ullswater Steamers run to the jetty at Howtown. There is strictly NO PARKING at the Howtown Hotel and Tea room carpark.

The start and finish boxes need to be punched, but all other boxes will be SIAC enabled.

* VERY SHORT GREEN – this is the same course as the Short Green but with some controls missed out. If you want to do Very Short Green, enter Short Green and pick up a Short Green map at the start. The map will show which controls to miss. You can decide while on the course whether or not to take the Very Short Green cut-off. The download system will work out which course you have completed.
Entries
Pre-entries are now open and close at 23:59 on Wednesday 29th May. Enter here
Seniors (21 and over): £7 (£8 for entry on the day)
Juniors (20 and under): £3
If you are new to orienteering and would like to go round as a group or in a pair, just enter one person and purchase any additional maps that your group would like at £1 each.
Dibber Hire
Available by pre-order at no charge, £30 if not returned. To pre-order, leave the SI number blank during entry process, collect from Download on the day. Also available for entry-on-the day.
Start
Between 11:00 and 12:30. The start is located high up on the fell, approximately 1.4km and 150m of ascent from the carpark. The walk to the start will be taped. Allow 20-40 minutes.
If you have pre-entered, and have your own SI-card just go straight to the start.
Yellow/Novice course maps will be at the Start but there will also be copies on display at Enquiries/Download for anyone who wants to have a look in advance.
Lift to Start
There is a limited space for a lift from the parking field to a location closer (approx 250m distance and 75 m of ascent) to the start available for those who would otherwise possibly not have taken part in this event. Please tick the ‘Lift to start’ box on SiEntries and meet at download in the parking field at 11:30 am for a prompt departure.
Finish
The finish is located near the carpark. The short walk back will be taped. Please remember to download. This is how we check everyone is back.
Coaching
A coaching session is available before the event. If you pre-enter please tick the box on the entry form to say you would like to attend. If you have not pre-entered then let the organiser know in advance that you want to attend. There is no charge. The session starts at Enquiries/Download at 10:00 prompt.
Facilities
Portaloo at parking. The Howtown Hotel and cafe next door offer food and drink. Competitors are strongly encouraged to use the tearoom to support this local facility.
Dogs
Well behaved dogs on leads are allowed in the car parking field and on the course.
Terrain
Fast open fell, characterised by complex contour details and small crags. Steep in places but with great views over Ullswater.
Map
1:7500 with 5m contours. Control Descriptions will be printed on the front of the map and loose descriptions will be available at the start.
Road Crossing
All courses cross a road twice – please take care. For Yellow and Orange the crossings will be marshalled.
Safety
Whistles are compulsory. Cagoules may be compulsory subject to weather conditions. Shorts may be worn, but note that there is dead bracken on parts of the area. Check for ticks after running. There will be a first aid kit at registration. Competitors with an existing medical condition are invited to leave details in a sealed envelope at registration.
Entry Cancellation / Changes
If you are unable to make the event please let us know via the email address. If we are informed by the closing date we will provide a refund less £1 per person to cover admin costs. Before the closing date you can change your course by editing your entry online, but there will be no changes of course on the day.
