Terrain, Mapping and Safety Notes
Eycott Hill is open, runnable fell.
- Scale 1:7,500 for all courses
- Contours 5m
- Rough open is mapped in white, rather than the usual pale yellow
- Out of bounds marshes: Some areas of marsh are marked out of bounds (purple crosshatch). Do not attempt to cross these at any time; they are deep and may contain hidden pools and/or flora and fauna of scientific interest.
- Paths: There various unmapped trods and quad bike tracks. Some of the mapped paths in the middle of the area are intermittent, fading in and out over time and on the ground. These will be taped for the benefit of Yellow and Orange course runners.
- Stoney ground: You are advised to navigate around areas marked with the ‘stoney ground’ screen; they can be difficult to cross especially in the area of the large crag on the south west side of the hill.
- Cows: There are Belted Galloway cattle grazing this area and some may have calves. The cattle are docile and used to people, but please run around them, giving a wide berth, if you encounter any along your route.
- Walls and fences: Do not cross any wall or fence, even if mapped as crossable. (Except while on the taped route from assembly to start, and back from finish, where you should ensure you close all gates securely behind you.)
Refreshments: La’al Yan coffee van and catering will be at the event, to provide drinks, snacks and hot food. As it’ll be a sunny day, why not bring a chair and enjoy eating your lunch with other competitors, in the field by assembly.
