Whistles and Clothing
It is strongly recommended that competitors carry a whistle. The event is in September and on an exposed area. You could return sunburnt or soaked and frozen; in wind and/or rain, competitors are strongly advised to wear a waterproof jacket and other warm clothing. In hot weather, please consider suncream, a hat and taking fluids with you on your run.

At start/finish. The risk assessment will be held at registration/download.
Start/Finish/Clothing Dump
It is an approximately 1.5km walk from parking to the start/finish. The route will be taped, along a country lane and then pavement beside a busier road. The final 100m has no pavement and is not great for driver visibility. Please be alert on this section. The start and finish are within 150m of each other and clothing can be left at the start or finish, at your own risk.
Starts 1100-1230
Courses close at 1430
When you arrive at the start, please be sure to let the start/finish official know who you are so you can be ticked off as having started. Likewise, let them know again when you finish, so we know you are safely off the area.
Courses
All are on the shorter side to allow for the walk to and from the parking to the start/finish.
Yellow
> 1.9km 95m climb (Newcomers and novice orienteers)
> Note that there is one section of path with bracken on either side which could be as tall as smaller children however, the path is clear on the ground through it.
> There will one short section marked with tapes between two controls, to assist with navigation.
Short Green
> 2.1km 100m climb (Experienced orienteers)
Green
> 3.9km 250m climb (Experienced orienteers)
Terrain Notes
Fast, open fellside with excellent views! Some areas a little wet or tussocky underfoot. There is a bracken over a small-ish area of the map. This is mostly only knee high and not especially dense, meaning that generally, routes through the bracken are highly feasible. Please check yourself for ticks afterwards.
Mapping Notes
> Scale 1:10,000 for Green, 1:7,500 for Yellow and Short Green
> Contours 5m
> There various unmapped trods and quad bike tracks.
> Trees are not mapped.
> Bracken screen is reasonably accurate.
> There is a fair bit of rock on the area – not all is mapped, but anything significant is.
Pop-Up Summer Picnic
Bring your packed lunch and flask, your own seat to sit upon, picnic table, if liked, and sun-hat etc as required, totally DIY, and join your fellow members and competitors at BL’s Club Picnic at our Watermillock Event. We provide the area, you provide the rest!
There will be a signed area taped off in the car park near download where we can all congregate, chat and revive in the fresh air after we’ve finished our runs. It’s not only for BLs. ALL competitors and friends are welcome – a chance to remind ourselves what a friendly and sociable sport this really is. Huge thanks to Angela Whitworth for masterminding and organising this.
