This is at the top of a dead end road which can only be accessed from Low Gelt Bridge, which is just off the A69 (look out for O signs).
Parking will be linear, there is a turning circle at the end of the road.
Punching: SI with SIAC enabled, you still need to punch the start and the finish
Facilities: Portaloo at the turning circle
There is a 1.4km level walk to the start and back from the finish, start and finish are adjacent.

Terrain: Gelt Woods is a mixed woodland. It is generally runnable but has some steep slopes and enormous crags. There is also a small area of rough open (only on the Green). Please note the Green does have some steep descents – the Short Green does not. You can change course before the closing date! Some of the paths are covered in leaf litter and are difficult to see. The Green course will encounter areas of severe windblow, these can be (and should be) avoided.

**Very Short Green – this is the same course as Short Green but with some controls missed out. If you want to do Very Short Green, enter Short Green and pick up a Short Green Map at the start. The map will show which controls to miss. You can decide while on the course whether to take the Very Short Green cut-off.
For anyone intending to do the Very Short Green and concerned about the walk to the Start/Finish, there is the possibility of parking nearer to the Start/Finish but there are no toilet facilities. Alternatively, you could come to the Registration CP to use the facilities, then drive round to the alternative CP, and do this in reverse to download – it’s not very far! Please contact the organiser.
Entries: Pre-entry only except for Novice course where there will be some entry on the day, subject to map availability. Entries are now open on SiEntries and will close at 23:59 on Wednesday 1st January Seniors (21 and over): £7 (£8 for entry on the day)
Juniors (20 and under) and full-time Students: £3
If you are new to orienteering and would like to go round as a group or in a pair, just enter one person and purchase any additional maps that your group would like at £1 each.
Dibber hire by pre-order at no charge, £30 if not returned. To pre-order, leave the SI number blank during entry process, collect from Download on the day.
If you are unable to make the event please let us know via the email address. If we are informed by the closing date we will provide a refund less £1 per person to cover admin costs. Before the closing date you can change your course by editing your entry online, but there will be no changes of course on the day.
Please Note: the area is popular with dog walkers and other members of the public, please be courteous to them.
