Talkin Tarn is a country park situated east of Carlisle on the edge of Brampton. Open runnable terrain with a mixture of grazed field, open woodland, and scrubland with a path network. They also have a cafe.
Pop-up Picnic:
This is another Picnic Event in the popular BL Pop-up Picnic Event series. INDOORS at this time of year, with Electricity for a Brew, in the Education Hut at Talkin Tarn.
Bring your own packed lunch and MUG. (Tea and coffee provided) and come and join your fellow members, friends, competitors and Merely Interested Spectators at BL’s Club Picnic after your run at Talkin.
We provide the roof over your head, seating and tables. You provide your food, and plates, mugs and cutlery (if you’re that posh!).
ALL welcome – not just BLs. New members come and introduce yourselves. Old Members (and Former Members!) come and catch up on your news, successes, far-flung Events and all things Orienteering.
Entry on the day:
For the yellow course only, subject to map availability (Seniors £6 Juniors £2 – extra maps £1) please come to registration.
Car parking: Public car park which is pay and display. Be warned wardens do visit the car park.
Directions:
If approaching from the West from M6 J42 follow the A69 to Brampton, at roundabout junction with A689 turn right for Brampton bypass following A69. Take the next left into Brampton village marked Station Road, Second left onto Tree Road and then left onto Tarn Road, follow until Railway crossing and entrance is on the left opposite the Golf Club
If approaching from the east on A69 make the right turn into Station Road and follow as above.
Enquiries: Registration/download and First Aid situated in the Education hut see below. Follow dashed line to Registration to prevent any collisions with leaving runners. Tramlines indicate route to start. Education hut visible from finish.
Toilets: Public loos available behind café, near to registration/download

Maps: 1:5000 for all courses. Please note contours are 2.5m.
Map memory runners – Maps will be available at the end if you wish to have a copy or if you want to return and retrieve a map should you wish to complete the course with one. Please note you will not be able to restart the course should you do so. These will be a registration
Control Descriptions: Map Memory participants please collect from Registration. All other courses descriptions will be printed on maps, no loose descriptions.
Timing: Sportident SIAC Enabled Punching Start – remember to punch at the Finish
Dibber Hire: Free but £30 payable if lost.
Coaching:
A short free coaching session for adult beginners / improvers available will be available before the first starts – please tick the box during the entry process if you are interested in taking part.
Dogs can be walked on leads in the park before/after however owing to presence of livestock – no dogs whilst on course.
Safety:
- Leg cover strongly advised but shorts allowed however please note there are sections of the course which have brambles/small shrubs.
- Weather is set to be mixed, waterproofs may be compulsory.
- Terrain is mixed with some well laid paths but all courses have elements of off path or less substantial paths. Please be mindful of wet leaves on the steeper slopes.
- Please be mindful of other uses as this is a public park open to all, and is well used by dog walkers and families.
- Cows and sheep are present in one field, please be mindful when passing however they are docile.
- First Aid station will be in the Registration.
