Event Centre and parking: William Howard School, Longtown Road, Brampton, CA8 1AR. NY526613 What3Words: ///animator.ranged.wept

Cars can remain in the school car park after your run, so you can visit Brampton. The school building will close by 3:30pm.

North West Urban League: this is the first event of the 2023 NWUL. BL is also hosting the 6th and final event of the 2023 league, in Penrith in November. Counting scores are 3 out of the 6 league events, so if Cumbrian orienteers can get to both of these BL events, they just need one more to get a full counting score!

Terrain: complex housing estate, with senior courses also taking in regular suburban housing estate, parkland, and the town centre. Some areas of grass, so shoes with some grip will be useful. Please do not wear shoes with dob spikes.

Start times: 11:00 – 12:30

Courses close at 14:15, by which time you need to be back at the school. So if you think you will take longer than 90 minutes, please can you start early.

Walk to the start/finish: 350m on taped route, via pedestrian crossing. Some side roads, so younger children need to be accompanied.

Double-sided maps: Please note that courses 3, 4, and 5 are printed double-sided, with no overlap, as otherwise the criss-crossing of the courses would make it too difficult to read.

Junior map at the event centre: A course 5 map will be available at Registration, for competitors on courses 4 and 5 to look at before they go to the Start. ALL competition maps will be at the Start.

Map: The map is British Orienteering ISSprOM 2019 standard at scale 1:5000, enlarged to 1:4000 for courses 1 and 2, and 1:3000 for courses 3, 4, and 5. Updated in 2003 by Keith Tonkin.

Control descriptions: Loose control descriptions will be available in the start lanes: symbolic for courses 1-4, and text for course 5. A black X represents a park bench.

Safety: There will be vehicle traffic and pedestrians: please be patient. There are some narrow alleyways. Please take corners wide, and make absolutely sure you do not run into anyone.

Please can anyone with an existing medical condition leave appropriate information at registration.
