Map
1:7500 with 5m contours. Significantly updated for this event using new LIDAR data. Mountain bike tracks are shown with the normal small path symbol. Unfortunately new ones can appear almost overnight so it is possible that you will come across one that is not on the map.
A black cross on the map represents a hide/shelter.
Control Descriptions will be printed on the front of the map. No loose descriptions will be available.

Terrain
Coombs Wood is a small area of working forest on the NE side of the River Eden. It comprises a very steep valley side, with flat areas at the top and bottom. There are many paths and tracks, including a lot of steep mountain bike tracks. The forest is mostly fairly rough underfoot with dead bracken and some brambles, but there are more runnable parts. The Short Green course is planned to use these as much as possible and will also use more paths than usual. One leg on Short Green/Very Short Green involves a steep descent, but a less steep alternative route is indicated on the map for anyone who would prefer something easier.

Clothing
Full leg cover must be worn. Shoes with good studs or metal dobs are advisable on the Blue and Green courses as the steep slope and mountain bike tracks can be very slippery.
If the weather is particularly bad cagoules may be compulsory – come prepared

Dogs
There are no restrictions other than common sense.

Coaching
A coaching session is available before the event. If you pre-enter please tick the box on the entry form to say you would like to attend. If you have not pre-entered then let the organisers ( BLdanandkaren@gmail.com ) know in advance that you want to attend. There is no charge. The session starts at Enquiries/Download at 10:00.
