Venue and Parking
Bampton Common is located about 12 km SSW of Penrith on the west side of the Lowther Valley. The parking is at at High Howe Farm, 4km SW of Helton.
£2 per car will be collected at the gate.

Terrain: Open fell with generally good runability, though there are some marshy sections that can be hard going particularly after wet weather. There are areas of gorse, rock and contour detail. A maps from a previous events can be seen here.
Entries
Pre-entry for all courses available via SiEntries. Pre-entry will close on Thursday 7th May at 23:59.
Entry on the day (including dibber hire) will be available on the Yellow, Orange and Red courses only.
Seniors (21 and over): £9 (or £10 on the day)
Juniors (20 and under) and full-time students: £4
If you are new to orienteering and would like to go round as a group or in a pair, just enter one person and purchase any additional maps that your group would like at £1 each.
Dibber Hire
Available by pre-order at no charge, £30 if not returned. To pre-order, leave the SI number blank during entry process, and then collect dibber from Enquiries/Download on the day.
Dibber hire also available for entry on the day.
Start and Finish
Starts between 10.30 am and 12.30 pm.
There are two starts:
The EAST Start is for Yellow, Orange, Red and Light Green Courses. It is about 600m, with no ascent, from the car park entrance. You will pass the finish on the way to this start.
The WEST Start is for Very Short Green, Short Green, Green, Blue and Brown courses. It is about 200m, with 15m of ascent, from the car park entrance. There will be a taped route of about 100m from the map issue to the start kite.
There is a single Finish, about 300m, with 10m ascent, from the car park.
Courses
There will be the normal range of Cumbrian Galoppen courses, and also a Red course suitable for fit but inexperienced competitors.

** Very Short Green – this is the same course as Short Green but with a loop omitted. If you want to do Very Short Green, enter Short Green and pick up a Short Green map at the start. The map will show which controls to miss. You can decide while on the course whether to take the Very Short Green cut-off.
Planner’s Notes
Yellow, Orange and Red courses all use Pylon Wires as a line feature (from the start).
Yellow includes two taped routes. Theses are shown on both the map and the control descriptions.
Light Green, Green, and Blue all have a loop where they return to the same control for a second time
Green, Blue and Brown all include a section with a lot of short cross-crossing legs. Take care to go to the controls in the correct order.
Brown competitors may choose a route across a stream that while not deep is fast-flowing. Take care.

1:10000 for Brown, Blue and Red courses. 1:7500 for the others. 5m contours.
Open fell is shown in white (rather than the standard pale yellow).
There are many unmarked animal trods,
A black circle on the map represents a concrete base (approximately 2m x 1m and 0.5m high). It is also shown in the pictorial descriptions with a circle.
Control Descriptions
Control Descriptions will be printed in the front of the map and also available loose at the start. Yellow, Orange and Red courses will have both pictorial and text descriptions. Other courses will only have pictorial descriptions.
Toilets
There will be mobile toilets at the car park
Dogs
There are no restrictions other than common sense.
Clothing
Shorts are permitted.
If the weather is very wet and/or windy cagoules may be compulsory. Come prepared.
Safety
There is a small herd of fell ponies grazing the area; please avoid frightening them
