Start
Between 11:00 and 12:30. The start is located approximately 400m from the car park. The walk to the start will be taped. It includes a manned road crossing. Take care exiting the car park field.
Yellow course maps will be at the Start but there will also be copies on display at Enquiries/Download for anyone who wants to have a look in advance.
Finish
There are two finishes. One is for the Yellow course (to avoid the need for a road crossing on the course) and one is for all other courses. Both are about 400m from the car park. Please remember to download. This is how we check everyone is back.
Courses close 14:00.
Facilities
Portaloo at parking.
Dogs
Dogs are NOT ALLOWED in the car park, even if left in the car. (See alternative parking arrangements above). Dogs are not allowed on courses either – Lake District National Park rules for events).
Terrain
Open fell, mostly fast going but with heather, tussocks and marsh in some places. There are areas of old old quarrying and many depressions and pits. On the north facing slope are the remains of three Romano-British settlements, which you see on the map as squarish earth-banks.
Map
1:10,000 with 5m contours. Control Descriptions will be printed on the front of the map, but not available loose. The map from a previous event can be seen here.
Note that rough open is shown as white. Not all small paths are shown – sheep and quad bikes create new ones faster than they can be mapped.
Road Crossing
All courses except Yellow cross roads. The crossings will not be marshalled. Please take care especially on the road that runs SW/NE through the area – it is straight and some vehicles travel very fast along it.
Safety
Whistles are compulsory. Cagoules may be compulsory subject to weather conditions. Shorts may be worn. Check for ticks after running. There will be a first aid kit at registration. Competitors with an existing medical condition are invited to leave details in a sealed envelope at registration.
The forecast is for warm, sunny weather. Consider wearing a hat and carrying water if you expect to be out for a long time.
