Latest Updates: 23/05/2024 – Final details added.
Final Details
In addition to the preliminary details below:
CAR PARKING: The car parking area on the grass is currently a lake and inaccessible. There is some hard standing available but if necessary, please follow directions of officials to alternative nearby free parking. Best alternatives are the station (open from 10.00am) and the far end of the car park at the Spar (note that the actual Spar car park is for customers only and time limited).
(On the off chance that the original car parking is used, note that the entry to the car parking field is narrow and will also be used by competitors walking to the start as well as local dog walkers – please enter and leave slowly and give way to pedestrians.)
The start is 200m – please follow tapes to the start and only cross the road by the marshalled crossing. Juniors must be accompanied to the start. Roads will be busy with bikes and cars (it’s Bank Holiday weekend) so take care out on courses as well as en route to the start. Please also be aware of cyclists – you may not hear them approaching!
Courses 2 and 3 are double-sided maps.
Paving, cobbles and footpaths may be slippery if wet – please take care.
Some of the last few controls on all courses are near the river please take care and supervise juniors in the car parking field which is also adjacent to the river.
The town will be busy so please be courteous to pedestrians and take care on narrow paths.
Please bring your own water – drinks are not provided.
There will be a pop-up picnic next to download – please bring your lunch and drinks, plus a chair and join us – everyone welcome.
There are also several nearby cafes and pubs, including the Cobbles and Station Cafes and the Cumberland Inn (outdoor seating overlooking the final controls on Tyne Willows), as well as a range of shops – please support local businesses after your run. The car park field will close at 3.00pm, so move your car before this time if you plan to stay longer.
We look forward to seeing you on Saturday.
