PFO Double – 29th and 30th November

With no events locally last weekend, a few enthusiastic BL members ventured south to the moors above Burnley. PFO held a NW Night League event at Hurstwood on Saturday evening followed by a Regional event the next day on the same area. The only Border Liner who managed to do both was Ali – well done to her! Her extensive investigation of the area at night must have paid off as she had a good run on Sunday (7th on Short Blue).

Hurstwood is an area of extreme contrasts – there are extensive areas of vegetated spoil heaps left from nineteenth century mining which now provide intricate contour detail, and above is an area of almost featureless, very tussocky, moorland. Fortunately, even the longer courses were focused on the former. The weather provided contrasts too; the night event had continuous rain, but by the next day it beautifully sunny (though cold).

This picture (from the event details) gives a good impression of how complex the old spoil heaps are. Navigating through them in the dark and rain must have been exceedingly challenging.

Good BL results came from:
Keith – 2nd on Blue (Night)
Christine – 9th on Green (Night)
Dan – 4th on Brown  (Day)
John – 2nd on Blue (Day)
