BL AGM News

The Border Liners AGM took place on 14th October. Minutes will be circulated to all members soon but here are the highlights….

The Chairman’s Award, which recognises someone who has made a major contribution to the club, was won by Karen Blackburn who for the last 10 years (at least) has been sending out the weekly (at least) BL News email to members. Congratulations and thanks to her, and good luck to Paul Watson who is taking over.

The club has a new chairman; Dan Parker has taken over from Stella Lewsley. The headline in her final Chairman’s Report was a reminder of the club’s astonishing achievement of coming second in the Compass Sport Trophy final.

There is also a new Fixtures Personnel Manager. Julie Ferris-Worth has taken over from Paul Watson. So when you want to volunteer to plan or organise an event she is the person to find (unless she finds you first).

The equipment store is moving from its long-established home in the Wren’s barn in Bothel. The club expressed its huge gratitude to Raymond and Jenny. No one at the meeting could even remember a time when it the equipment was kept elsewhere. There are a few options for a new equipment location – watch this space.

The meeting ended with a very interesting open discussion about the ways the club could develop: should we consider paying some (as many other clubs are doing) to help with publicity, or development or permissions. Another question was should we go back to having entry on-the-day for all courses. Finally, there was a not-entirely serious, suggestion that we should focus all our recruitment efforts on the middle-aged rather than youngsters, who require a lot of effort for not much reward.
