Thanks to BL member Alan Hartley for this report: Last weekend saw the MTB orienteering British championship races held in various forests around Ringwood. Similar to major foot orienteering events in Britain, major MTBO events tend to be a cluster of events over the weekend, to encourage you to travel. In this case, there wereContinue reading “Mountain Bike Orienteering British Champs – 27th/28th September”

High Pike Saturday Series Event –27th September 2025
The latest event in Border Liners Orienteering Club’s Saturday Series took place on the north east slopes of High Pike on 27th September. Underfoot conditions were mostly rough grassland, but not too tussocky, making for good running despite the hilly nature of the terrain. It was a cool day with a strong breeze and fortunatelyContinue reading “High Pike Saturday Series Event –27th September 2025”
High Pike Event – Saturday 27th September
The BL Saturday series event at High Pike on Saturday was excellent. Planner Jeff’s courses made the most of the terrain; on the technically difficult courses, well chosen control sites meant that you had to keep navigating all the way to the feature, while the easier courses had a good balance between interest and relativelyContinue reading “High Pike Event – Saturday 27th September”
Mourne Mountain Marathon 20th/21st September 2025
Report from Karen Parker. Last weekend, Julie and I went to Northern Ireland to take part in the Mourne Mountain Marathon. Second Place in the Compass Sport Trophy Final!
The Compass Sport Cup and Trophy Final was held on Sunday 14th September at South Gare, an area of sand dunes in Teeside. BL achieved a magnificent second place in the small clubs competition and when you know that 52 clubs entered, with 21 making the final it seems even more of an achievement. TheContinue reading “Second Place in the Compass Sport Trophy Final!”

Pike o’ Blisco – 7th September
The eighth event in this year’s Cumbrian Galoppen series took place on Sunday (7th September) at Pike o’ Blisco in Great Langdale, organised by LOC. The pre-race chat in the car park was all about two things: firstly the need to start as early as possible to avoid the rain and wind that was forecastContinue reading “Pike o’ Blisco – 7th September”
Long-O (and not so Long-O) – 31st August
Despite heavy showers, gale force wind and lots of tussocks, most people seemed to enjoyed the Long-O at Watermillock Common and High Brow (aka Aira Skyline) on Sunday. Well done to everyone, especially those who undertook longer courses than they are used to. Dan’s press report can be seen here Results / Routegadget / WinsplitsContinue reading “Long-O (and not so Long-O) – 31st August”

BL Long-O – 31st August 2023
Border Liners held their annual Long Distance orienteering event on Sunday 21st August on the fells to the west of Dockray (High Brow and Watermillock Common). The going was tough with competitors crossing much tussocky ground, made even more challenging by a strong, gusty wind to throw them off balance. After some early showers theContinue reading “BL Long-O – 31st August 2023”
