World Masters Orienteering Champs – 9th to 15th August

Three BL members were in Girona, NE Spain, participating in the World Masters Orienteering Champs. The sprints were mostly within the walls of the old town, with Forest events on old sand dune areas to the East. Europe was suffering a heat wave during the week and boy did we know…. it was hot!! In the direct sun temperatures were in the mid to high 30s by midday, so for all events start times were earlier than usual, and for the forest events there were thankfully many water points around the courses at which you could get a drink, or pour water over your head! For those in the B + C finals there was an option to start between 7.30 and 8.15 in the morning, whereas A finals were between 8.30 and 10am on the last day with faster qualifiers starting later.
