Only a week to go until the Knipe Scar Middle Distance Event on 17th May, and it’s all looking good.
The area itself is looking, and smelling, particularly attractive at the moment with the gorse in full bloom. The bracken is starting to make an appearance, but at present it’s just thinly spaced, green shoots – nothing to impede progress. We’re hoping that the very dry weather is discouraging it from getting over-enthusiastic.

The courses, planned by Keith, are finalised and thoroughly tested; as testers we can say we found them very enjoyable, and surprisingly challenging (considering that we run on the area several times a week)

Preparation of the car park entrance has required a lot of work. What was previously slightly narrow gate with a 6 inch drop into the field, is now a double gate with a smooth(ish) under-wheel surface. Thanks to John (gate installation and wall building) and Julie (wall destruction and earth removal) for all their help with this.

The String Course is nearly ready; it’s penguin-themed but this definitely isn’t a reflection on the expected weather. It’s based in the unused part of the parking field and includes a detour into the organisers’ garden.

We are very grateful to the large numbers of BL members (nearly 30) who have offered to help on the day. We had thought it might be hard to get enough people but no coercion or bribery (except for free runs) was required.
Entries close on Sunday (11th) at 23:59. There will be entry on the day on Yellow and Orange and there are rumours that late-entry will be available on other courses too (check the event details on Monday 12th).
