Is your orienteering calendar looking a bit empty? Here’s the answer

Unless you want to travel to northern Scotland, or the deep south of England, March is looking a bit short of orienteering events. Fortunately for Border Liners members, the club is offering two informal events to fill the gap….

On Tuesday 18th March there is a Lowry Hill Lampposts event and social evening, based at Angela and Dick’s house in North Carlisle. A variety of courses is available from a 2km traffic-free option for juniors up to a 6.3km version, still with very little traffic, for adults, all followed by an indoor pop-up picnic; and you’re very welcome to come for the picnic even if you don’t want a run!
There are no actual control markers, but all the controls are on lamp-posts and you will know you are at the correct one because of the number on the post. Angela has spent many happy hours over the past few years mapping them all and then checking that the council haven’t moved or renumbered them.

You can see a preview of the map here. Full details have been sent out in the BL News email, including how to to let Angela know that you want to come.

A week later on Tuesday 25th March there is a MapRun event in Penrith which includes the chance to socialise in the pub afterwards (or instead). For event details and how to enter see here. Don’t worry if you’ve not used MapRun before; full instruction will be available on the night – just bring your phone. This event is open to everyone, whether BL members or not.
