1. At this time of year, especially after the recent freeze has wilted the old bracken, Beacon Hill is a lovely area. The woodland on the flat top is often likened to Scottish, or even Scandinavian forest. (Map from previous event available here)

2. The parking is on hard-standing at the golf club so there’s no risk of getting stuck in a muddy field, or negotiating pot-holed forest roads
3. There will hot drinks and food available in the club house after (or even before) you run. Even if this doesn’t appeal (are you sure?), there will still be a warm room where you can look at results and chat.
4. It might only be a Local event, but there is a full range of colour-coded courses from Yellow (1.9km) to Blue (6.0km), including Very Short Green and Light Green (ideal for newcomers looking to improve their navigation). Events often claim that they have courses to suit everyone, but it really is true in this case.

5. The start and finish are close to the car park – only 500m with negligible climb and (almost certainly) no need to get wet feet before you start.
6. With so many events being cancelled at the moment, you need to take the chance to orienteer when you can. We can’t guarantee that this event won’t suffer the same fate, but if it does you can get a full refund so there’s nothing to lose by entering.
