The Gelt Woods event, postponed from last month by Storm Darragh, took place on Saturday 4th January in calm but cold weather. The officials at any event deserve appreciation, but even more so here where a lot of the work had to be done twice. For instance all the controls had already been put out and checked by the time the first attempt was cancelled. So many thank you to Stella (organiser), Andy (controller), Charles (planner) and Paul (assistant controller and control hanger)
Gelt Woods is a lovely place with its sandstone cliffs and old oak and beech trees, but it does offer challenges to the planner – anything navigationally interesting tends to involve very steep descents or climbs. So well done to Charles, a relative newcomer to planning, for keeping most people happy; there were a lot of contented faces at download (and not just because of the chocolates on offer).

It was nice to see so many youngsters doing the Yellow/Novice course, undeterred by long walk to the start and back from the finish. We hope you all enjoyed it and come back soon (maybe to Penrith Beacon in two weeks time where the start and finish are much closer to parking)
