Binsey Charity Event Press Report

Thanks, as always, to Andrew Bell for his excellent work in writing about BL events for the local press. Here is the latest…..

On the 27th December Borderliners Raymond and Jenny Wren organised a Christmas Charity orienteering event which was held on the eastern slopes of Binsey at Bassenthwaite and afterwards at Bothel for a fabulous array of soups and cakes.

Two orienteering score courses were on offer, both using the same set of 18 control sites. Both had an upper time limit of 45 minutes, with a heavy penalty for exceeding the time limit. The Short was a normal score event, with runners able to visit controls in any order they chose. However the Long had an interesting twist. Controls were grouped by feature, and bonus points were awarded for picking up all the controls in one of the feature categories before moving on to the next category. Many of the faster runners scored more than the conventional maximum 180 points, and thirteen of the best athletes scored a maximum of 260 points within the time limit. In all 66 competitors had both a good post-Christmas run and enjoyed a food top-up courtesy of Jenny.

The charity event raised a splendid sum of £588 for the Great North Air Ambulance.
